The Game of Hearts: continued






💕 Hearts is a game that involves avoiding having to collect cards of the heart suit or the queen of spades 💕

Read on to learn the rules, instructions, and tips

How to get started:

Start by dealing out all the cards between the 4 players (13 per person)

    At the start of the round each player passes three cards of their choice to another player in the order designated below:
  1. pass to the left
  2. pass to the right
  3. pass to the player across the table
  4. keep all delt cards

    Items needed:
  • Deck of cards (no jokers)
    • no jokers
    • standard 52 cards
    • shuffled
  • 4 people
  • score card and pen
  • snacks

These are cards that are important to note in the game of hearts.

Queen of Spades

The queen of spades is a special card that increases the players points by 13

Starting suit

The first player to go will place down a card of any suit, and all other players must match that suit unless they have run out of cards in that suit. This is how hearts must be broken.

What is a Trick???

A trick is the name for all the cards played during a round that will be won by a player.

Breaking Hearts

A card in the heart suit can not be played as a starting card in a round unless a heart card has already been played in a previous trick

Scoring

After all players have used up all their cards, the amount of hearts in the stack of the players won tricks is counted. Add that number plus the queen of spades for whomever won the queen



Order of play

1.
Players are delt cards and trades cards for round. Player with the 2 of clubs starts

2.
Play goes to the left of the starting player until every person has placed down one card of the correct suit

3.
The player who played the highest card wins the trick and adds those cards to his pile

4.

The player who won the last round now starts the next one with their card of choice.

*remember that hearts must be broken before it can be played as a starting suit*

5.
Play continues until all of the cards in the players hands have been played

6.
Players now count up the amount of hearts in their won tricks. Be sure to include the queen of hearts to the count of the player who won the trick with the queen
